Wind Mitigation Inspections

Document the features that help protect your home.

A CLEARER VIEW OF YOUR PROPERTY

Construction details. Documented clearly.

A wind mitigation inspection documents qualifying construction features that may reduce wind damage risk. Florida insurers use this information when reviewing applicable premium credits. Discounts depend on verified features and the insurer’s rules.

What the inspection considers

Roof construction

Roof covering information, roof deck attachment, and roof-to-wall connections are documented where visible and verifiable.

Wind-resistant details

Roof geometry and evidence of a qualifying sealed roof deck or secondary water resistance system may be evaluated within the applicable form requirements.

Opening protection

Available documentation and visible labels for windows, doors, garage doors, and other openings help establish qualifying protection.

Current Florida form. Evidence matters.

Florida’s mitigation form was revised effective April 1, 2026. In addition to roof covering, attachment, geometry, sealed roof deck and opening protection, the current form records building-code information, wind region and roof slope. Applicable photographs or supporting records are needed to substantiate findings.

Document features, then review with your agent

This service documents verifiable wind-resistant construction features. It does not replace an overall condition inspection. Your agent or insurer determines which documented features qualify for credits under your policy.

Before your inspection

Gather prior mitigation reports, roof permits, product approvals, installation records, and opening-protection documentation. Attic access and visibility matter: insulation and roof design can prevent verification of certain connections. Unverified features cannot simply be assumed.

Your preparation checklist

  • Gather permits, installation records and product approvals.
  • Have window, shutter and garage-door documentation ready.
  • Make the attic hatch accessible; never move unsafe equipment or insulation yourself.
  • Share prior mitigation reports for review without assuming prior findings can be reused.

Questions, answered.

Are insurance savings guaranteed?

No. Qualifying credits depend on documented features, your policy, and carrier review. Your insurance agent can explain the effect on your premium.

What if a connection cannot be seen?

The visibility limitation is documented. Prior reports or supporting construction records may be useful for further review, subject to verification requirements.
